  38. This is the alt.sex.wanted FAQ, which will deal with our above clueless
  39. (if hypothetical) post point by point, hopefully in an entertaining
  40. fashion.

  48. that there are lots of randy people trying desperately (perhaps
  49. hopelessly) to hook up, about the morality of sex or any of the variants
  50. requested, about there being no chance; don't bother making ignorant
  51. allegations about the folks who read or post to the group, suggesting
  52. the use of a manual alternative, et cetera.... We are all aware,
  53. unlikely to be swayed by the likes of you, and have heard it before. And
  54. the last guy was more eloquent. Please go over to alt.sex or alt.flame

  60. A:    The alt.sex.wanted group was created to get the requests for
  61. erotic stories out of alt.sex.stories (at which it has failed). It
  62. *does* serve to get the "I WANNA G3T LAID, D00D3TT3Z!" posts off of most
  63. the rest of the net, and thus justifies its existence.
  64.     In short, alt.sex.wanted is for requesting explicit GIF sites,
  65. literary erotica, exchanges of erotic e-mail, and yes, trying to set up
  66. physical carnal encounters. This doesn't mean you *will* actually get
  67. what you want, just that you can try; it also does not mean that you
  68. won't get something you *don't* want, like harassing phone calls, wrong
  69. gender responses, or an STD. Life does not come with assurances.
  70.     It is not the place for *posting* images, literary erotica,
  71. explicit GIF sites, et cetera. If you're posting something anywhere near
  72. the length of this FAQ, you probably shouldn't be. You also should be
  73. careful about posting your opinions about other people's ads; your
  74. biases, such as towards heterosexuality or non-married individuals, may
  75. only be *your* biases.
  76.     It also has been used for some time to post ads for erotic
  77. BBS's, Party Lines, et cetera, since there really wasn't any place else
  78. more appropriate. There is a newsgroup (alt.sex.erotica.marketplace)
  79. specifically for such ads. If you want to advertise, please do it on
  80. that group. (Ask your system administrator to please carry a.s.e.m!)

  86. forge articles, or use accounts which have been hacked or left logged
  87. in; people post things saying they want one thing, when actually they
  88. have hopes for another; there's no good way to verify most of the
  89. information posted here; some people post other people's addresses or
  90. phone numbers for harassment purposes; and anonymous remailers make all
  91. these potentially worse....
  92.     Yes, it's for real. But nigh everything should be taken slowly
  93. and with caution. Good advice in general for sex, I suppose, but that's
  94. beyond where I'll claim expert status.

  103. perspective? Not everyone out there is hetero, especially on the net.
  104. Please leave the homosexuality flame war over in alt.sex, too, along

  106.     As a related side issue, saying what gender and what your sexual
  107. orientation are will keep you and other people from being annoyed by
  108. time wasting confused e-mail. If you don't say what *you* are, as well
  109. as what/who you are looking for, how will you connect? The usual
  110. convention has a set of acronyms: ISO for "In Search Of", SWM for
  111. "Straight White Male", GBF for "Gay Black Female", BiAF for "Bisexual
  112. Asian Female", and so forth. (Usually on alt.sex.wanted the "S" at the
  113. beginning stands for Straight, and not for Single, although this isn't
  114. a hard and fast rule.)

  120. A:    The net is international in scope, not a local BBS. People post
  121. to this from all over, not just in your area.

  126. A:    Such is *probably* (but not certainly) a fake. News articles are
  127. occasionally forged; passwords are stolen, or foolishly shared; people
  128. forget to log out. A fair number of the ads posted are fakes; perhaps
  129. not especially from females, but they seem to be subject to the most,
  130. err... enthusiastic misguided responses. If it seems too good to be
  131. true, remember it might not be true. Be polite at first, and make sure
  132. it's real.
  133.     ESPECIALLY, do not believe anyone who gives an e-mail address
  134. other than the one in the header. Anyone who says "please send e-mail to
  135. my friend biff@foo.bar.baz.net" is almost certainly NOT a friend of that
  136. person. For that matter, don't believe "I'm using a friend's account,
  137. but please respond to mine at grep@mung.blot.net" too readily, either.
  138.     Ladies and wenches, do not be surprised if doubts are expressed
  139. when you first post. It will pass soon, if you persist.
  140.     And to people who think such jokes are funny, Hint: they aren't.

  146. your site for help in using your system. Please note the difference
  147. between sending e-mail and posting a news article: E-mail gets sent to
  148. one person; news articles get seen by everyone on the group.
  149.     If your system (for some reason) forbids you to post to
  150. a newsgroup, e-mail to alt.sex.wanted.usenet@decwrl.dec.com gets posted
  151. non-anonymously.

  154.     *    If you are not sure whether your news system is working,
  155.         then go over to the alt.test and misc.test newsgroups to
  156.         see if it is working. NOT to alt.sex.wanted, please.
  157.     *    If you want to send out a general ad for yourself, then
  158.         post a news article.
  159.     *    If you would like to tell people that the author of
  160.         another post is in fact a real, live, breathing (human
  161.         being/AI, choose one) that you have met in the flesh,
  162.         then send a followup.
  163.     *    If you would like to call someone an idiot, leave it to
  164.         those who have been around for a long time and have
  165.         gotten skilled at it.
  166.     *    ****NOT**** if you want to send an interested response
  167.         to someone else's posted ad. This is what e-mail is for.

  183. A:    If you don't get a response from an ad, you might want to change
  184. your approach, or at least alter the wording. Of course, if the response
  185. is "RTFFAQ!" then you might want to change much more than the wording
  186. anyway. Similarly, imagination in a reply may well be more likely to get
  187. a response.
  188.     Please remember, most people like to have a little imagination
  189. in their sex partners. And posting the same thing over, and over, and
  190. over, and... does not show much imagination. (IMHO)

  195. A:    Some things, like good food and good foreplay, take time. This
  196. forum is one of them. Rome wasn't built in a day, the stork has a nine
  197. month shipping delay, and all that rot. Depending on what you're looking
  198. for, response time varies from hours (if you want, say, a copy of a
  199. Purity Test), to until-hell-freezes-over-thaws-and-refreezes (if you
  200. want, say, Cindy Crawford herself).

  205. A:    A good idea, even if it was probably me that told you to. While
  206. you're at it (if you haven't done so yet), check out the regular postings
  207. on news.announce.newusers and maybe the alt.sex FAQ as well. You don't
  208. need to read everything posted in news.answers (where almost *all* FAQs,
  209. including this one, get cross-posted), but it might give you something
  210. to do while waiting for Godot, Judgment Day, and a favorable response to
  211. the sample ad.

  216. A:    Well, there are. Some even post somewhat regularly. Some just
  217. lurk. In about the past few weeks before I first made this, my very
  218. non-random sample noticed about a dozen or so posting. They mainly seem
  219. scarce because there are so many guys. This reflects the net. (The
  220. median estimate is around 1 in 6 a.s.w readers is female; "your mileage
  221. may vary".) But hell gets chilly now and then, because I have seen an
  222. ad from a horny knockout model, whose description was verified by two
  223. other people. YES, IT HAPPENS.
  224.     Also, when *any* female shows up, clueless folks tend to e-mail
  225. "wannafuck" messages no matter *what* she has said. This means many of
  226. them don't post, only listen. The law of supply and demand is on their
  227. side; they don't have to step forward publicly.
  228.     Get a clue: don't e-mail "wannafuck" messages to everything
  229. female that posts. You'll give the group a bad rep, and it *WON'T WORK*.

  253. question. To be blunt: if you are male, and straight, looking for a
  254. physical encounter, and not looking for a 3rd party with your present
  255. SO, then you *probably* won't. But there is a finite chance; it *has*
  256. happened.
  257.     I repeat: YES, SOME PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN RESPONSES.
  258.     People actually do respond to some of these ads... emphasis on
  259. *SOME*. The abundance of straight male horny geeks means that those
  260. looking for a SMHG can pick and choose. A certain amount of style,
  261. class, wit, honesty, and romance demonstrated in posting (not to mention
  262. having a life[TM]) is almost certainly helpful for this sort of thing.
  263. Crudeness and a four-letter-word vocabulary is not certainly helpful.
  264.     In addition, you may or may not be better off trying the bar
  265. scene, a 900 number, or other method, but that's a matter of personal
  266. taste, personal style, dubious opinion, and whether or not you're
  267. located in, say, Alaska.
  268.     This, by the way, doesn't mean that if you are female, gay, are
  269. looking for something other than a physical encounter, and/or are
  270. looking for a third, you *will* find what you are looking for. Life
  271. doesn't come with assurances.

  276. A:    First off, remember that there are hundreds of thousands of
  277. people out there on this group. Someone may know who you are. Posting
  278. your phone number with such candid opinions may be hazardous to your
  279. marriage. Or even posting anything at all. Sex is a sport with hazards.
  280. (On the other hand, it's *your* marriage....)
  281.     Second, this is a planet-wide group. Include an area code if you
  282. do choose to post your phone number.
  283.     Third, if you want to use an anonymous remailer for anonymity,
  284. do not include your *real* e-mail or snail-mail address... this defeats
  285. the point of the server. Use your anonymous e-mail address, which should
  286. appear automagically in the header, or a snail-mail drop.
  287.     Fourth, trust no name, e-mail address, phone number, gender, or
  288. whatnot posted anonymously, and be cautious of those e-mailed to you.

  298. mailing program) assembled this one after vast irritation at the lack.

  340. remove names, as the list gets (IMHO) too long.

  342. even. However, I can't help you read this or any other newsgroup if you
  343. can't already, find FTP sites for anything other than the purity tests
  344. (try quartz.rutgers.edu), or assist you in getting much of anything
  345. *else* discussed here. (EG, laid. Unless, of course, you happen to be a
  346. heterosexual female inclined to travel to Charlottesville, Virginia.
